The Global Fallout ProgramThe Environmental Measurements Laboratory has carried out a 90Sr fallout sampling program since the middle 1950's. Through June 1976, the monthly collections were analyzed individually. Beginning in 1976, the monthly collections were composited into quarterly samples which were then analyzed. Beginning in 1991, quarterly composites have been created but not analyzed due to very low fallout levels of Sr-90. As of 1994, EML has also been receiving samples from a sampling network sponsored by the UKAEA. Sample collections are performed using one of several types of collectors: a high-walled stainless steel pot; a plastic bucket; a funnel attached to an ion-exchange column; or a funnel and polyethylene bottle (UKAEA network).

The EML Sample Archives makes available environmental radiological data collected for programs funded through the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, the U. S. Energy Research and Development Administration and the U. S. Department of Energy. All of these programs have been terminated. The databases were last updated in 1999.
